ON HOLD: QA Engineer / lead (SCM or Software Developer in Test skills a plus) (Boulder, CO)

Fast-paced and growing Boulder startup is looking for an experienced software QA engineer to lead testing for a web-based product.

To be successful, you must have an assertive personality as you will initially be the only QA Engineer working with a development team of 7-8 developers.

As the QA team grows, there is potential for this to grow into a leadership role - so leadership skills are a must and leadership experience is a big plus.

In addition to a solid software QA background, the ideal candidate will also bring skills and experience in either the area of Software Configuration Management (SCM) or significant experience writing automated tests, shell scripts, or programming experience. This is a small company and we are looking for someone who can contribute in multiple ways.

Must be a self-starter who can rise to challenges and get things done. Must be able to work under tight deadlines.


Responsibilities will include:
  • Review, understand and contribute to product requirements, specifications, and user stories.
  • Identify and document detailed test cases, test scenarios, and test scripts.
  • Forewarn stakeholders when a project is in jeopardy of meeting deadlines.
  • Actively participate in design/code reviews and handoffs.
  • Perform manual and automated functional and regression testing.
  • Contribute to QA and product documentation.
  • Provide testing estimates.
  • Uncover and document defects in daily builds of the product software.
  • Qualify bug reports from product users.
  • Verify bug fixes.

Responsibilities may include (depending on the experience you bring):
  • Develop automated functional and regression test suites.
  • Write, maintain, and run white-box unit tests.
  • Setup and maintain an automated build process.
  • Package product releases for deployment.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in QA and testing methodologies.
  • Ability to develop and execute test plans with minimal guidance.
  • Experience testing web-based products.
  • Experience testing products using multiple web browsers and platforms.
  • Experience with QA methods in an agile development environment.
  • Understanding of unit tests, system tests, and test-driven development.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Strong SQL Skills (MySQL a plus)
  • Linux Skills

Desired Qualifications:
  • PHP, Java, or other object-oriented programming skills.
  • Scripting languages
  • Shell Scripting
  • Experience with Cruise Control, Selenium, or other automated testing/build tools.
  • Experience with load testing for applications supporting high numbers of concurrent users.
  • Subversion experience
  • BS in Computer Science or related degree

CLOSED- QA Engineer - 6 mo. contract with possibility for hire - downtown Boulder

SUMMARY


Our client is seeking QA Engineer for their downtown Boulder headquarters. This position reports to the QA Manager.

This is a 6-month contract with possibility for hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute test cases against Client and Operational facing software applications
  • On-going ad hoc testing of applications
  • Identify, analyze, and report application defects (e.g. detail steps to reproduce expected and actual results) and assist with resolution.
  • Write and execute test cases, test plans and document results
  • Verify that corrective actions meet quality objectives (e.g. verify resolutions and close bugs)
  • Assist in administrating defect tracking tool

Requirements:

  • Two years testing experience
    A background in manual testing background with an interest in learning automation preferred
  • Experience testing a Win 32 or Visual Basic application ideal. Understanding of SQL a plus.
  • Experience testing software for internal clients or internal distribution a plus
  • BA/BS Degree
  • Knowledge of

  • Internet Explorer
  • Firefox
  • Ability to meet deadlines and schedules and be accountable for defined tasks
  • Must have attention to detail and be able to write and follow test cases and checklists.
  • Ability to document results of testing in a detailed and organized manner.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast, dynamic environment and maintain a professional attitude with team members
  • Working knowledge of trouble ticketing or bug tracking databases for reporting and managing defects
  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills & presentation skills, written and verbal
  • Able to work well independently
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Experience working with remote development teams ideal
  • Experience working with frequent/short release cycles a plus
  • Experience with Mercury TestDirector a plus.
